SIGNS OF VITAMIN C INSUFFICIENCY & ANTIOXIDANTS
Vitamin C plays a key role in the production of collagen, a protein abundant in connective tissues such as skin, hair, joints, bones and blood vessels. Often in cases of Vitamin C deficiency, the skin is rough, uneven, with frequent conditions of keratosis pilaris, permeability of capillaries, red spots near hair follicles. The skin is more prone to bruising and wounds heal more slowly, increased chronic inflammation and oxidative stress. Vitamin C can help protect against obesity by regulating the release of fat from fat cells, reducing stress hormones and decreasing inflammation.
SIGNS OF B-VITAMIN DEFICIENCY
Common symptoms of a vitamin B12 deficiency include fatigue, headaches, mouth ulcers, pale yellow skin colour, brittle, discoloured and ridged nails. Paresthesia: an alteration in the sensitivity of the limbs or other parts of the body. An example of paresthesia is tingling. The symptom often occurs in the hands, legs or feet and arises when B12 levels decrease. This means that the body is producing less myelin, a fatty substance that covers and protects nerves. In the case of vitamin B2 deficiency, the skin may show cracking at the corners of the mouth, itching around the nose, ears and scalp, glossitis, stomatitis, burning eyes and excessive sensitivity to light. Deficiencies in B vitamins in general may manifest themselves in weakness, tiredness, depression, anaemia and loss of vision.

Iron contributes to the reduction of tiredness and weakness. Its job is to transport oxygen in the body, and where cells and tissues receive less, the body experiences that sometimes unsettling sense of exhaustion. When tissues receive less oxygen, the colour of the skin tends to turn pale, the nails more brittle. Due to iron deficiency, the skin and hair receive less oxygen from the blood. Hair becomes dry, damaged, easier to fall out and dark circles under the eyes may be more noticeable.
